Last week, the North Slope Borough School District Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Michele Brown, spent three day visiting Point Hope to meet and support teachers as they prepare for the 2026-2027 school year. Director Brown visited each classroom, meeting with each teacher, to ensure they have all of the materials needed for this school year. In one case, where something was needed, Director Brown managed to get the missing material put onto a plane heading to Point Hope from Utqiagvik on the same day it was requested. Director Brown was highly impressed with the quality of returning and new teachers to Tikigaq School, calling our school, students, and community quite fortunate. The reputation of Point Hope students being kind and welcoming to their teachers is spreading.
Director Brown was thrilled to explore the old village site and visit the sod houses and drive along the seven-mile road. More than anything, seeing so many of whale bones on display made her recognize the best whalers in the world are right here in Point Hope!
Dear Parents and Point Hope Community Members,
Recently, several students have been seen climbing on the roof of Tikigaq School and digging under the fence area surrounding the bottom of the school. While this involves only a few individuals, we ask you please remind your children of the safety dangers and risks of climbing onto the school roof or playing under the building. In some cases, bolt cutters were used to break through the fence. Should you see any children climbing on the roof or playing under the building, please notify the police, as we want to ensure all children in the village are safe and healthy. Thank you for your help and support in keeping the children and community safe.

We are excited to welcome back all students on Thursday, 13 August 2026. For the first few weeks of school, we are making a few changes because of the ongoing construction in the Tikigaq School kitchen. All students are being asked to enter the building through the new gym entrance. Because of the ongoing kitchen remodeling, all breakfasts and lunches will be served in the lobby of the new gym area. From there, students will be able to access the new gym to play and for morning lineup activities. This will remain in effect until likely the first full week of September. We want to ensure the kitchen, cafeteria, and old gym are thoroughly cleaned and dust-free before allowing students to access those areas. Dismissals will be through new gym doors as well since we do not want students exposed to unnecessary dust. As a reminder, from 13 through 21 August, all NSBSD schools will have early dismissal, with elementary students being released at 2 PM and secondary students being released at 3 PM.
During the construction and cleaning phase, which is scheduled to last no later than 8 September, bagged breakfasts and lunches will be served. We deeply regret we cannot serve hot or warm meals on most days because of limited kitchen access. At present, the only ovens our kitchen staff have access to are in the Family & Consumer Sciences room, and it is not possible to provide hot breakfasts and lunches to over 215 students through those two ovens on a daily basis. Please accept our apologies for this situation and know we are doing all we can to ensure your child is provided a nutritious and tasty meal twice daily.
We hopeful that we will be able to provide school bus services starting in January 2027.

Dear NSBSD Families,
We're excited to welcome your student back for another wonderful year! School starts on Thursday August 13. K3 and K4 will start 24 August 2026.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To meet State and District training and compliance requirements, Thursday August 13th to Friday August 21st will follow the Wednesday early release schedule. School will dismiss at : 2 PM for elementary students (grades ECE-6) and 3 PM for secondary students (grades 7-12).
Thank you for partnering with us to make sure this year gets off to the strongest possible start for every student in our NSBSD community.
We are excited to see you on 28 August for our open house at Tikigaq School from 5-7 PM.
Summer School starts next week!
Elementary students with SIGNED permission forms on file may attend.
High school students in credit recovery (all grades 9-12) may attend morning, afternoon, or both sessions in Library. Computers will be available.
Dates: May 26 - 30, TUESDAY - SATURDAY (Memorial Day) June 1 - 5, Monday - Friday
Rising first Graders (just finished K) - Rising 3rd, 9:00 - 12:00 Rising 3rd - Rising 7th 1:00 - 4:00
Snacks will be served, but lunch will not.
Lily will be working the office if any questions.
